CBD – Cannabidiol In Hemp Helps Your BonesWhat Is CBD?CBD is one of the 85 identified cannabinoids in Hemp. It is one of the plants major components, making up almost 40% of the plants extract. Unlike the THC found in marijuana, CBD is not considered a psychoactive substance in the plant.

Marijuana has been used as a medical remedy in many societies until the 1930’s and 1940’s when countries started to ban its use from fear of the growing drug addiction problem. Recently though, research on Hemp’s medical benefits has seen a huge rise in study.
CBD Can Heal You Sooner Research has already been done and continuing on marijuana treating cancer, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, and a number of other ailments.  In a new study published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research though, the study finds that CBD in Hemp can help your bones.

The research done by Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University researchers explores another promising new medical application for marijuana. According to their study on CBD, the non-psychotropic component can significantly aid in the healing of bone fractures.
The study was conducted on rats with mid-femoral fractures. It found that CBD, even when it was not combined with THC, significantly increased the healing process of the bone after only 8 weeks.

To put some perspective on that, a normal femur break in a mouse or rat takes anywhere from 6-12 weeks to heal. Let’s go average with 9 though. A normal human femur fracture can take between 4 to 6 months to heal completely. And that’s under optimal conditions.

If you apply this ratio with humans, you can have your fracture heal anywhere between 2 weeks to a month earlier. In the grand scheme of things, that’s huge. Less time healing means more time doing what you want or have to do.

CBD Can Help Make You Stronger

The research on CBD was led by the late Prof. Itai Bab of Hebrew University’s Bone Laboratory and Dr. Yankel Gabet of the Bone Research Laboratory at the Department of Anatomy and Anthropology at TAU’s Sackler Faculty of Medicine.

In previous research done by the same team, they found that cannabinoid receptors within our systems helped prevent bone loss and even stimulated bone formation. This research shows that hemp can be used not only to treat bone related diseases, but to help prevent them as well.
Dr. Gabet stated, “The clinical potential of cannabinoid-related compounds is simply undeniable at this point. While there is still a lot of work to be done to develop appropriate therapies, it is clear that it is possible to detach a clinical therapy objective from the psychoactivity of cannabis. CBD, the principal agent in our study, is primarily anti-inflammatory and has no psychoactivity.”

He continued, “We only respond to cannabis because we are built with intrinsic compounds and receptors that can also be activated by compounds in the cannabis plant,” after speaking on how our bodies come with a cannabinoid system that regulates our non-vital and vital systems.
The research found that bones themselves are regulated by cannabinoids. The researchers put CBD into one group of rats, while another was injected with CBD and THC to see if the THC mattered in the process of healing.

After evaluating the rats and the data on the fractures, they found that CBD by itself gave the required therapeutic stimulus without the need for the THC. They even found that CBD helped make the break stronger after it healed.

“We found that CBD alone makes bones stronger during healing, enhancing the maturation of the collagenous matrix, which provides the basis for new mineralization of bone tissue. After being treated with CBD, the healed bone will be harder to break in the future,” stated Dr. Gabet. He continued, “We found CBD alone to be sufficiently effective in enhancing fracture healing. Other studies have also shown CBD to be a safe agent, which leads us to believe we should continue this line of study in clinical trials to assess its usefulness in improving human fracture healing.”

From healing the average breaks, to helping treat osteoporosis, CBD could help many people all over the world. The fact that we are just now getting to this research is a bit sad, but at least it is finally happening. Hopefully it will continue, and we will find new ways for this plant to help us.
