Protein bites aka bombs – no bake peanut butter protein bites with superfoods and moringa.
These protein bites are loaded with healthy ingredients like hemp seeds, flax seed, raw cacao nibs and moringa. These are excellent for a grab n go breakfast or a protein boost before or after a workout. I noticed at the local gym they sold protein bars. My instructor said they are delicious. Thankfully she spoke english. I looked at the ingredients and the first ingredient was SUGAR … lots of sugar. Add to that all the additives, chemical preservatives and artificial flavoring. I told her these are not good for people wanting to workout. She looked at the list and was like OMG these are terrible. (They are no longer available.)
I came upon a recipe that sounded great, but again it called for sugar, another recipe called for maple syrup. While I LOVE maple syrup, it is VERY expensive here in Costa Rica. It’s imported after all and with a 13% import tax I opted for alternatives. I love easy recipes and this couldn’t have gotten any easier. They’re hearty and filling and just one or two will keep you satisfied until your next meal. Plus, if you are like me and have a sweet tooth, these will help with that craving. The longest part of making this recipe, was that I didn’t have homemade peanut butter handy. So I had to whip up a batch.
Oats: they are known as a superfood all by themselves. Whole grain, loaded with fiber, vitamins and minerals.
Hemp seeds: I enjoy taking my hemp oil and adding hemp seed to your diet is even that much more amazing. They are an easily digestible complete protein. These little seeds are packed with healthy fats, iron, vitamin E and quite a bit of fiber.
Flaxmeal: I take whole flaxseed and grind these up to make flax meal. Once flax has been ground up it starts to lose it’s nutritional value and can go rancid. Not what you want to put into your body. It only takes a minute or two to make this yourself. They are also high in fiber, have healthy fats, antioxidants and of course protein.
Cacao Nibs: I love these little raw gems. Just the right amount of crunch and much healthier than chocolate chips. Loaded with fiber, antioxidants, magnesium, iron and more healthy fats.
Moringa: an amazing superfood. I add this to just about everything.
The great thing about this protein bites recipe is that you can substitute just about anything. That’s one reason we don’t call ours peanut butter bites or anything specific, just pure protein bites. You can use any kind of nut or seed butter as a binder and any other liquid sweetener.
Enjoy This Amazing Recipe
Delicious snack loaded with brotein and superfoods - great snack after a workout
- 1 3/4 cup gluten free rolled oats
- 1/4 cup hulled hemp seeds
- 1/4 cup flax meal grind your own flax seed
- 1 tbs moringa powder
- 1 cup natural peanut butter I make my own so there are no additives
- 1/4 cup honey plus 2 tbsp agave or maple syrup can be used
- 2 tbsp raw cacao nibs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
add all the ingredients in a large mixing bowl until it is well combined
take a 1 tbsp scoop of mixture at a time and gently press or roll the mixture into a ball.
repeat with the remaining ingredients
you could roll these in shredded or powdered coconut
